Sustainable Suppliers Programme: training to advance corporate sustainability

Sustainability has become a key element in corporate strategy, particularly when it comes to supply chains. Today, organisations increasingly assess their suppliers not only based on operational performance, but also on their commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

In this context, the Sustainable Suppliers Training Programme, promoted by the UN Global Compact Spain together with ICEX and the Official Credit Institute (ICO), is designed to bring sustainability closer to supplier companies and support them in integrating these principles into their operations.

The programme covers key topics such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), human rights, diversity and inclusion, environmental impact, business ethics, and sustainability reporting. These areas provide a comprehensive overview of the main challenges and expectations facing companies in today’s business environment.

Beyond the technical content, one of the main values of this initiative is its practical approach: helping companies better understand current market expectations and explore ways to gradually incorporate sustainable practices into their daily operations.

Sustainability in the supply chain is not an immediate transformation, but rather a continuous improvement process that requires learning, adaptation, and a long-term perspective. For many organisations, especially SMEs, it represents a gradual journey rather than an overnight change.

Initiatives like this programme play an important role in supporting that transition, offering a starting point for companies that want to strengthen their approach to sustainability and align more closely with international standards and expectations.
