Anteral Academy: 6G

The aim of this section is to contribute our vision and knowledge on a variety of topics in which we participate both in R&D, through projects, and in products and services that we develop in Anteral and uRAD. This time we will focus on 6G and its characteristics.

CONTEXT

As Xataka, a media specialised in technology, comments, “5G had not yet begun to be deployed when China began to talk about 6G and has already put a satellite into orbit for testing. South Korea said it would carry out the first 6G pilot project in 2026, and in Spain, an aid programme has already been approved”.

This technology has sparked a competitive race among nations vying to be early adopters, driven by its potential to push boundaries beyond current limits.

Let’s examine what 6G proposes, including its use cases, the projects in which Anteral is involved, the financing options available, and the future implications it holds.

We leave you a news where we show you a work with Huawei on 6G (link Diario de Navarra) where we achieved a milestone for future communications: achieving medium/long distance wireless transmission at 240 gigabits per second outdoors. In addition, they also published it. You can see it at the following link.

6G REFERENCE PROJECT

6G Hardware Enablers for Cell Free Coherent Communications and Sensing

This project deals with:

– Integrated circuit and antenna component solutions, incorporating dynamic frequency and spatial antenna filtering to enable efficient spectrum coexistence.

– Practical hardware in terms of complexity, cost and power consumption that will end up constituting a reference design for future 6G-distributed networks.

FUNDING

The government, through the Ministry of Digital Transformation, has already finalised the grants to support the development of advanced 5G and 6G from 2022. These grants amount to 62 million euros.

The call is called “UNICOI+D 5G Advanced and 6G 2023. It is funded by the European Union Recovery Fund – NextGenerationEU”.

AND THEN?

We progressed from 1G to 2G, 3G… and now to 7G.

7G already exists, although standard protocols are still under development.
